TL;DR
Corporate Counsel, Spacecraft Licensing (Aerospace): Managing spacecraft and ground station licensing applications for FCC, NOAA, NTIA, and other regulatory bodies with an accent on regulatory filings, compliance portfolios, and coordination with engineering and mission operations. Focus on translating complex technical requirements into defensible submissions, tracking license obligations, and negotiating commercial contracts for space missions.

Location: Denver, CO; Long Beach, CA; Washington, DC. U.S. government space technology export regulations require candidates to be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Base salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Own the full lifecycle of spacecraft and ground station licensing across FCC, NOAA, NTIA, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare, coordinate, submit, and manage license applications, modifications, renewals, amendments, and NTIA/ITU coordination.
  • Advise engineering, mission operations, communications, and other technical teams on licensing and RF compliance requirements.
  • Manage Plans of Action and Milestones, compliance calendars, licensing trackers, reporting obligations, and regulatory deadlines.
  • Monitor FCC, NOAA, and related rulemaking and maintain relationships with regulatory agency staff.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate vendor contracts, subcontracts, teaming agreements, NDAs, and consulting agreements.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3–7 years of legal experience, preferably combining law firm and in-house work.
  • Direct experience preparing and submitting spacecraft or ground station FCC and NOAA license applications, including NTIA applications.
  • Experience preparing and managing Plans of Action and Milestones, with familiarity with FCC and NOAA commercial remote sensing regulations.
  • Ability to translate technical information into regulatory filings and practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong written and presentation skills, attention to detail, project management, and commercial contract experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the commercial space, aerospace, or satellite communications industry.
  • In-house experience at a technology or aerospace company.
  • Familiarity with spectrum coordination and ITU filing processes.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a TS//SCI security clearance.
