Principal Software Engineer (Java)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid with core in-office days Monday through Thursday

Annual salary: $190,000–$240,000, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build secure and compliant platform products that solve customer needs.
• Write high-quality, robustly tested production code, primarily in Java.
• Understand customer problems and design effective technical solutions.
• Document engineering work to support a rapidly scaling organization.
• Interface with multiple company domains to strengthen the payment platform.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience building production software systems.
• Track record of writing scalable, performant, and maintainable code.
• Experience with Java 11 or later, JPA ORM mapping, SQL, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Proficiency with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code across design, prototyping, development, testing, and iteration.
• Strong interest in customer-centric software delivery and continuous advancement of AI development skills.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco hybrid arrangement, with core in-office days Monday through Thursday.

Nice to have

• Experience with card acquiring platforms or fintech products.
• Experience with GCP or AWS, Spring Boot, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with BigQuery or Redshift.
• Experience building AI agents for financial or payment platforms.
• Familiarity with LangChain, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
