Director, Forward Deployed Engineering – Federal (AI)

Location: Tysons, Virginia, United States. U.S. citizenship and authorization to work in the United States without current or future company sponsorship are required.

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 USD annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own delivery outcomes across a portfolio of civilian agency and DoD federal accounts from signed statement of work through production and expansion.
• Set engagement scope, milestones, dependencies, value hypotheses, and technical and commercial roadmaps.
• Lead executive briefings, steering committees, stakeholder relationships, escalation management, and delivery recovery.
• Manage, hire, staff, develop, and performance-manage Forward Deployed Engineers and Team Leads across multiple accounts.
• Oversee technical discovery, data and integration planning, MVP definition, AI use-case adoption, and pilot-to-production conversion.
• Guide ATO/cATO strategy and accreditation work across IL2–IL6, SIPR, JWICS, and other high-side or air-gapped environments.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required; active DoD security clearance at Secret level or higher is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of management consulting or FDE/delivery leadership experience serving federal customers.
• Experience hiring, developing, and performance-managing teams and owning complex multi-workstream delivery across simultaneous engagements.
• Working knowledge of federal program structures and authorization frameworks, including PMOs, ATOs, AOs, ISSMs, RMF, FedRAMP, and federal contract vehicles.
• Production experience with AI agents, LLM-based systems, or enterprise AI platforms, including sufficient fluency in data architecture, integrations, and technical design.

Nice to have

• TS/SCI clearance or willingness and eligibility to pursue one.
• MBA from a top-tier program and consulting leadership experience at Associate Partner, Principal, or equivalent level.
• Experience with AWS GovCloud, C2S, Azure Government, Government Secret, Advana, or other CDAO-managed environments.
• Experience in defense, intelligence, maritime, manufacturing, energy, or other federal mission areas.
• Experience scaling a forward-deployed delivery function or team at a federal software or AI platform vendor.
