TL;DR
Embedded Software Engineer, Tech Lead (C): Building embedded firmware and automated validation for analog and Ethernet connectivity devices with an accent on hardware bring-up, calibration, link management, and real-time performance. Focus on developing low-level C firmware, automating test flows with Python, and solving complex signal-integrity and networking edge cases across silicon-to-production workflows.

Location: Remote, Canada; the team is based in Ottawa.

Base salary: CAD 140,000–180,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, incentives, and benefits.

Company

Provides rack-scale AI infrastructure through semiconductor-based connectivity solutions and software for CXL, Ethernet, NVLink, PCIe, and UALink systems.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain embedded C firmware for analog and Ethernet connectivity devices, including register configuration, state machines, calibration sequences, and control loops.
  • Perform low-level hardware bring-up and debugging in collaboration with senior firmware engineers.
  • Implement features for analog control, equalization, Ethernet link management, SERDES configuration, diagnostics, and failure-mode handling.
  • Write Python scripts for test automation, data collection, analysis, and validation across operating conditions and corner cases.
  • Help build CI infrastructure and automated test tooling while characterizing firmware behavior across device configurations and link states.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, Jira tracking, and collaboration across firmware, silicon design, applications, and validation teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience writing embedded C/C++ firmware on real hardware.
  • Experience working at the hardware/software boundary, including reading datasheets, configuring registers, and interpreting hardware behavior.
  • Familiarity with Linux development tools including gcc/clang, make, bash, gdb, and git.
  • Some experience with Python scripting for test automation, data analysis, or utility scripts.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Ethernet systems or devices, including Layer 1 PHY, SERDES, retimers, gearboxes, or NICs.
  • Exposure to analog or mixed-signal systems, calibration, signal conditioning, equalization, jitter, eye diagrams, or link margin.
  • Experience with Jira, RTOS, device drivers, bare-metal microcontroller firmware, or laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, BERTs, and logic analyzers.
  • Internship or co-op experience in semiconductor or networking hardware.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work remotely from Canada with a small Ottawa-based engineering team.
  • Collaborate directly with senior engineers across firmware, silicon design, applications, and validation.
  • Gain exposure to the full product lifecycle from silicon and hardware bring-up through production deployment.
  • Receive discretionary bonus eligibility, incentives, and benefits.
  • Work in a fast-moving startup environment that values diverse ideas, backgrounds, and experiences.
