Propulsion Engineering Technician (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in San Luis Obispo, California, United States. Short-term off-site testing at various test ranges may be required.

Salary: $25–$50 per hour, plus equity opportunities.

What you will do

• Build, operate, and maintain test cells, instrumentation packages, and related test infrastructure.
• Perform engine performance testing and calibration for small propulsion systems.
• Build and rebuild prototype engines for development testing.
• Execute engine and systems verification and validation test plans.
• Collaborate with propulsion engineers and test teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize performance.
• Document test setups, procedures, and results, and support short-term off-site testing at aerospace test ranges.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in aerospace maintenance or development support, with direct engine experience; aerospace piston or turbine experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience prototyping, testing, and iterating mechanical systems.
• Ability to support overall test operations and flight test development campaigns.
• Experience with test cell operations, instrumentation setup, and engine calibration techniques.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering instructions.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; the role may involve access to technology controlled under U.S. export control laws, including EAR and ITAR.

Nice to have

• A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) certification or equivalent hands-on aerospace training.
• Experience with small turbine engines or aerospace propulsion systems.
• Experience supporting flight test campaigns or aerospace development programs.
