TL;DR
Performance Research Engineer (AI/ML Hardware): Researching optimization techniques, performance-analysis tools, and hardware/software co-design for an ultra-low-power programmable processor with an accent on compiler collaboration, architecture simulation, and low-level performance libraries. Focus on modeling dataflow architectures, evaluating code-generation quality, designing parallel implementations, and integrating new optimization techniques into production systems.

Location: San Jose, CA or Pittsburgh, PA, United States

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Research optimization techniques and design tools for AI-assisted optimization and performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with architecture teams on future hardware and perform modeling experiments using an architecture simulator.
  • Work with compiler engineers to evaluate code-generation quality, suggest intrinsics, influence the ISA, and experiment with language extensions.
  • Integrate optimization techniques, tools, and language extensions into performance libraries.
  • Develop performance libraries and applications for resource-constrained, real-time environments.
  • Analyze performance issues related to Efficient’s Fabric dataflow architecture.

Requirements

  • Hands-on software development experience working closely with hardware and exposure to at least two RISC, DSP, or GPU platforms.
  • Strong C/C++ and systems-level programming skills, including debugging, maintenance, interface design, and modular code development.
  • Experience with CUDA, HIP, or other parallel programming models, as well as hardware simulation environments.
  • Experience designing frameworks and libraries for resource-constrained or real-time environments.
  • Expertise in at least three relevant domains, such as linear algebra, ML, image or video processing, signal or audio processing, SDR, real-time programming, or robotics.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; PhD preferred. Equivalent experience accepted.
