Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work setup with in-person orientation

Salary: CAD 135,000–169,000 annual base salary, plus potentially applicable bonuses, commissions, or long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack capabilities for Advanced Product Designer and insurance content transformation.
• Develop scalable Java microservices and APIs on AWS using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Create performant JavaScript and TypeScript front-end experiences for configuring complex insurance products.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools to generate, refactor, and extend code while maintaining quality, testing, security, and observability.
• Apply enterprise architecture and software design patterns to improve reliability, maintainability, performance, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers while improving CI/CD, DevOps, testing, and Kubernetes-based deployment pipelines.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, ideally with SaaS or cloud-based products.
• Strong Core Java skills and experience building production microservices on a major cloud platform, preferably AWS.
• Hands-on JavaScript or TypeScript front-end experience.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, DevOps practices, TeamCity, and Git-based workflows.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot with sound judgment regarding code quality, testing, and security.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain and defend technical decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience in property and casualty insurance, financial services, or another complex regulated domain.
• Experience with business rules engines or decision modeling, particularly DMN FEEL.
• AI/ML development experience, including prompt engineering, model tuning, or integrating AI services into production.
• Experience with configuration platforms, modeling platforms, low-code/no-code tools, or developer productivity platforms.
• BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
