Senior Database Migration Engineer (PostgreSQL)

What you will do

• Design and execute end-to-end database migrations from Oracle and SQL Server to PostgreSQL for hirify.global Cloud, including planning, dry runs, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization.
• Optimize query plans, indexing, partitioning, batching, connections, and throughput to meet performance and service-level requirements.
• Develop and maintain migration scripts, utilities, pipelines, and automation using Bash, Python, workflow tools, and related technologies.
• Configure replication technologies such as AWS DMS, SQL Server transactional replication, and Oracle GoldenGate for phased, low-downtime migrations.
• Troubleshoot database, application, and network issues with PDO, Professional Services, and cloud operations teams, including planned weekend cutovers.
• Define data validation, reconciliation, and control processes while using AI-assisted tools to accelerate analysis, development, and performance investigations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of database engineering experience, including at least 2 years focused on production data or database migrations.
• Hands-on expertise with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, schema design, indexing, performance tuning, and database operations.
• Experience migrating Oracle and/or SQL Server databases to PostgreSQL and resolving compatibility, performance, and operational issues.
• Proficiency with UNIX/Linux administration, Bash, Python, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, networking, and connectivity troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with data replication technologies and migration or cutover scenarios.
• Clear written and spoken English required; availability to work 30–50% of weekends with advance notice.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure-as-code or environment automation experience with Terraform.
• Programming experience with Java, Kotlin, C, or Go.
• Experience with GitHub Actions, Argo Workflows, KubeVela Workflows, Temporal, Jira, and Git.
• Background in SaaS, mission-critical, high-availability, financial services, or insurance technology environments.
• Experience with large-scale, multi-tenant cloud platforms and data-intensive workloads.
