Backend Engineer II (Python/Django)

Location: Hybrid in London, UK; remote candidates considered, but you must be able to work in the UK.

What you will do

• Own medium-sized backend features and components, delivering stable, production-ready code with minimal supervision.
• Build and extend Django services for multiple countries from a shared codebase.
• Integrate billing, CRM, authentication, field-service, and device-control platforms across service boundaries.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, and observability for live applications.
• Contribute to technical design, code reviews, documentation, debugging, and incident management.

Requirements

• 3–4 years of experience building web applications with Python, preferably Django.
• Experience with unit, integration, and functional testing, relational databases, and background task processing.
• Ability to work in large multi-tenant codebases with shared abstractions, territory-specific behavior, and upstream integrations.
• Experience with continuous delivery, automated type checking, linting, and CI guardrails.
• Strong initiative, structured problem-solving, adaptability, and interest in smart energy devices.
• Ability to work in the UK is required.

Nice to have

• TypeScript, AWS Lambda, CDK, DynamoDB, event-driven microservices, or API Gateway.
• Experience with distributed architecture and scaling across services.
