Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: London, UK; hybrid with 3 days a week in the office

hirify.global develops consumer lending products using AI and Open Banking data to provide fair and affordable personal finance. The company operates in fintech and is expanding into new markets and product lines.

What you will do

• Design and develop Python backend services and features supporting payments, reconciliations, reporting, and other financial operations.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Own platform components and ensure the reliable operation of associated business processes and KPIs.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and business stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver practical technical solutions.
• Provide second-line support during business hours, troubleshoot customer-impacting issues, and improve SQL-driven data access and performance.
• Build reliable AI-assisted features and integrations, including evaluation, structured outputs, fallback handling, observability, and human review.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python skills, including async code, type hints, and unit testing.
• Experience with backend frameworks such as FastAPI and with RESTful API design.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with message queues or background job systems, Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus experience maintaining business-critical systems and collaborating with business stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating third-party AI APIs or building AI-assisted internal tools.
• Knowledge of lending products, lending operations, financial concepts, accounting flows, or reconciliation processes.
