Senior Rust Engineer (Proton Drive)

Location: London or Geneva; primarily in-person collaboration in the office

Proton builds privacy-focused, encrypted software including Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain core Rust libraries for Proton Drive SDKs.
• Ensure compatibility and performance across web browsers and mobile devices.
• Collaborate with backend API, web, Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS developers.
• Review code and optimize maintainability, reliability, and performance.
• Implement secure coding practices and comprehensive unit and integration testing.
• Create and maintain documentation for core libraries and contribute to the technology roadmap.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience focused on Rust.
• Strong knowledge of Rust language features, concurrency, and the ownership model.
• Experience developing libraries for web and/or mobile applications.
• Understanding of secure coding practices and a strong focus on security and privacy.
• Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with Git or similar version control systems and a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• iOS development with Swift or Android development with Kotlin.
• Experience building native mobile SDKs or integrating Rust libraries into mobile codebases.
