Controls Engineer (HVAC/Building Automation)

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. Hybrid schedule: onsite Monday through Thursday; Friday work location is flexible based on business needs. Some travel to construction sites within the district is required.

Annual base salary: $65,200–$118,860. Incentive eligible; not eligible for sales commission.

What you will do

• Design building automation systems using direct digital controls for different building types.
• Review contracts, mechanical plans, specifications, estimates, equipment submittals, and job surveys for incorporation into automation system designs.
• Create installation, submittal, and as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and transition documentation to field service.
• Develop advanced sequences of operation that meet project requirements and design cost-effective control solutions.
• Support cost estimating and assist BAS technicians with wiring, programming, electrical terminations, commissioning, graphics development, testing, and startup.
• Work with minimal supervision, guide other engineers, and resolve customer concerns through corrective actions and technical solutions.

Requirements

• Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, construction, engineering technology, or a related field; alternatively, 3+ years of HVAC industry experience in project management or estimating, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with HVAC systems, building automation systems, and/or temperature controls.
• Experience with a drafting or design program.
• Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, IT infrastructure, and network architecture.
• Understanding of industry-standard protocols and integration requirements is preferred.
• Valid driver's license held for at least 12 months and an acceptable driving record are required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of new construction, renovation and retrofit projects, performance contracting, and service project management.
• Familiarity with Trane Controls products, applicable third-party devices, and building automation offerings.
