Senior Distributed Systems Engineer (Geothermal)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States; hybrid work from headquarters

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain a reliable distributed compute system for a multi-physics well-targeting engine.
• Lead the scaling and reliability migration of an existing system.
• Build fault-tolerant, resilient event-driven architectures for scientific research workloads.
• Orchestrate massively scalable cloud workloads using serverless platforms, Kubernetes, or custom VM fleets.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, geoscientists, seismologists, and engineers to solve geothermal discovery problems.
• Share distributed systems expertise and help other disciplines understand the engineering practices involved.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience in a business environment, ideally with a significant scientific component.
• Experience leading the design and implementation of distributed computing systems.
• Experience with persistent data storage using relational databases and cloud blob storage at scale.
• Experience with system observability, including logging, monitoring, alerting, and metrics.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
• Fluency in Python and SQL, plus experience managing cloud resources in GCP or AWS.

Nice to have

• Experience with experiment tracking, optimization methods, applied algorithm development, reinforcement learning, or other AI/ML techniques.
• Web development experience and familiarity with geoscience concepts and applications.
