Software Development Engineer (Observability)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; employees may be required to work on site at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. At least 50% of each quarter is spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $137,000–$205,400 for the primary location; $123,900–$222,000 for additional U.S. locations.

What you will do

• Design, build, and enhance monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing services.
• Develop data capture, collection, ingestion, and processing systems across Kubernetes, OpenStack, and bare-metal environments.
• Build metrics ingestion pipelines, alert definitions, and dashboard lifecycle automation.
• Deploy and optimize infrastructure components in production and air-gapped U.S. AWS cloud regions.
• Maintain observability data quality, integrity, and availability while participating in on-call support.
• Partner with Federal Cyber Defense and commercial engineering teams on security, governance, compliance, and platform health.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required because the role supports U.S. Federal Government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance is required; TS/SCI with CI Poly is preferred.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Four or more years of experience building high-performance data ingestion software, including concurrency, latency, and efficiency optimization.
• Strong Java and Python development skills; experience with Go, Linux, APIs, time-series databases, log management, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with infrastructure automation using Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.

Nice to have

• Experience with Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Grafana, InfluxData, PromQL, InfluxQL, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliance with IAT Level II certification and approved specialty certification.
