Senior Software Engineer (Observability)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States. hirify.global Flex may allow working from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year.

Annual salary: $105,000–$215,000.

What you will do

• Build and enhance high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications for observability and data engineering.
• Develop and execute the technical software development strategy for the Observability Engineering domain.
• Lead technical roadmaps and project execution to improve product delivery velocity and engineering capabilities.
• Collaborate with product managers, customers, engineering teams, executives, and sponsors to solve critical technical problems.
• Ensure solution quality, usability, performance, and operational reliability while supporting on-call operations.
• Coach technical development professionals, transfer research into production, and promote engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience in software development, platform architecture, infrastructure management, administration, governance, or related systems engineering work.
• Hands-on experience building complex distributed systems for large-scale telemetry, with strong knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Advanced knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language, such as Java, Go, or Python.
• Strong knowledge of open-source databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, or Cassandra; familiarity with Apache Trino and Parquet or Avro formats.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure; continuous delivery, infrastructure as code, data streaming architectures, and developer tooling.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent education or work experience.

Nice to have

• Experience architecting observability platforms and advanced data analytics solutions with open-source technologies.
• Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, Grafana, Prometheus, ML, and AI technologies.
• Experience with Windows Server Administration and Windows Event Log.
