Trade Compliance Specialist (Part-time)

Location: Office-based in York, UK, with hybrid working subject to business requirements; commuting distance to York is essential.

hirify.global develops communications and networking technology and operates a global Trade Compliance function.

What you will do

• Act as the primary contact for UK import clearances and support export shipments.
• Provide import, export, and export-control guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Prepare and manage import/export documentation, audit customs declarations, resolve broker errors, and submit post-clearance amendments.
• Maintain UK Global Tariff and HS commodity-code classifications, customs records, authorisations, and audit trails.
• Analyse HMRC customs data, maintain SAP/GTS compliance master data, and oversee customs brokers and service levels.
• Deliver customs and export-control training and support audits, risk assessments, compliance projects, and system improvements.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in import/export operations, export controls, and logistics.
• Practical experience with SAP, ideally SAP GTS, and Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of the Customs Declaration Service and HMRC online services.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, logistics, or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong analytical, organisational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work 30 hours per week and remain within commuting distance of York is essential.

Nice to have

• Customs Practitioner Award, IOE&IT qualification, or equivalent.
