Senior Engineering Manager - Client Authentication (Security)

Location: On-site in Austin, Texas, United States

Salary: $190,000–$225,000 per year, plus bonus or incentive opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the engineering team responsible for Schwab’s client authentication platform.
• Build and operate highly available, scalable, secure, and low-latency authentication services.
• Provide technical leadership across complex engineering decisions, delivery execution, risk management, and operational resilience.
• Coach, mentor, recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent across multiple locations.
• Partner with technology, business, and development teams to align priorities and remove delivery barriers.
• Use automation, telemetry, metrics, and AI-enabled development practices to improve quality, speed, and reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on software development experience with distributed platforms.
• 4+ years of software development management experience, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
• 1+ years of experience focused on security technologies.
• Experience with Java and/or C# in Linux and/or Windows data center environments.
• Deep knowledge of authentication protocols, REST, APIs, Web Services, Agile development, and Test-Driven Development.

Nice to have

• Experience with MongoDB or Aerospike.
• Experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry or GCP.
• Experience driving AI adoption through AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, prompt engineering, AI testing automation, or AI code review automation.
• Experience using telemetry and operational insights to improve platform reliability and time-to-market.
