TL;DR
EHS Technician - 2nd Shift (Manufacturing/EHS): Ensuring environmental, health, and safety compliance across manufacturing processes, equipment, hazardous waste areas, and site operations with an accent on regulatory inspections, risk reduction, and incident prevention. Focus on conducting risk assessments and incident investigations, improving EHS KPIs, maintaining compliance documentation, and supporting safety and sustainability projects.

Location: On-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan, 5 days per week. 2nd shift: Monday–Thursday, approximately 3:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m.; Friday overtime as needed. Occasional after-hours emergency support may be required.

Salary: $25.77–$30.43 per hour

What you will do

  • Evaluate processes, equipment, and work areas to identify environmental, health, and safety concerns.
  • Inspect operations and equipment for compliance with company, state, and federal regulations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Track and trend EHS KPIs using spreadsheets and hirify.global software.
  • Coordinate EHS improvement projects, support contractors and staffing, and maintain business continuity.
  • Prepare procedures, Toolbox Talks, communications, and training for employees and groups.
  • Participate in incident investigations, risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses, Gemba walks, safety committees, ergonomic assessments, waste and stormwater inspections, and sustainability projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Willingness to pursue a technician-level certification, certificate, or degree program in a related field.
  • Ability to complete First Aid/CPR/AED, RCRA/DOT, OSHA 30-hour, and Fall Protection training within the first 12 months.
  • Ability to independently adjust priorities based on risk and business needs.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, move around the facility, and handle materials in chemical, waste, and water storage areas.

Nice to have

  • Associate degree in engineering, life safety, environmental studies, occupational health and safety, or a related field.
  • Previous environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Additional related degrees, coursework, or experience.
