Commercial Credit Senior Associate (Engineering & Construction)

Location: Hybrid, requiring four days per week in-office at an M&T corporate office in Rochester, NY; Buffalo, NY; Radnor, PA; Springfield, MA; or Boston, MA. The role supports the New England and/or Delaware regions.

Salary: $103,000–$171,600 annual USD

What you will do

• Underwrite new commercial credit requests, material modifications, renewals, and restructurings from deal screening through approval and throughout the loan lifecycle.
• Monitor commercial loan portfolios through annual reviews, interim updates, covenant monitoring, problem-loan management, and early-warning indicators.
• Analyze financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, due diligence reports, credit bureau data, industry research, and peer information.
• Prepare cash flow analyses, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity calculations, financial models, guarantor analyses, and risk ratings.
• Recommend transaction structures, terms, conditions, controls, collateral, guarantors, and risk mitigants across base-case and downside scenarios.
• Partner with relationship managers, customers, analysts, and credit committees; lead transaction execution teams and present credit analyses.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, plus five years of relevant commercial credit or financial analysis experience; alternatively, nine years of combined higher education and work experience including five relevant years.
• Strong analytical skills, including financial modeling, credit metrics, financial ratios, trend analysis, and risk assessment.
• Emerging proficiency in legal documentation, structural analysis, and independent transaction structuring.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, build customer relationships, and manage transaction execution.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to work in the required hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Engineering and Construction commercial credit experience.
• Experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, or Bloomberg.
