Director, Nationals (Payments)

Location: US - Ashburn, VA; at least 3 days in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $160,500–$257,000 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Advise major U.S. issuing banks on strategies for sustainable growth, profitability, customer engagement, digital payments, and portfolio performance.
• Lead consulting engagements from strategy definition through recommendations, setting scope, direction, timelines, and delivery standards.
• Develop strategic frameworks, points of view, executive presentations, and actionable recommendations from complex data.
• Partner with analytics, data science, marketing, risk, innovation, product, account, and regional teams.
• Support sales pursuits, shape strategic narratives, and contribute to Statements of Work.
• Build reusable consulting offerings, toolkits, best practices, and intellectual capital for the VCA practice.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, 8+ years with an advanced degree, or 3+ years with a PhD.
• Strong consulting, client relationship management, analytical, communication, presentation, leadership, and collaboration skills.
• Experience engaging mid-to-senior-level stakeholders at banks or credit unions and operating across sales and delivery responsibilities.
• Knowledge of banking operations, payment schemes, business systems, processes, and marketing initiatives.
• Experience across payments areas such as portfolio management, marketing, product management, operations, and risk management for credit and debit cards.
• Ability to use financial indicators to measure performance and improve return on investment.

• 12+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 10+ years with an advanced degree.
• 5+ years of consulting experience and a payments background.
• Technology- and AI-forward mindset with interest in practical applications.
