Milling, Grinding, and Polishing Group Leader (Optics Fabrication)

Location: Onsite in Wilton, Connecticut, United States. Compressed work week front-end nights: 6:00 PM–6:00 AM on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Saturday.

What you will do

• Lead 15+ optical technicians across milling, grinding and polishing work centers.
• Plan production schedules, manage resources and deliver precision optics safely, on time and to quality targets.
• Set goals, coach employees, conduct performance reviews and develop technical competencies through training and cross-training.
• Monitor key performance indicators including safety, first-pass yield, delivery, lead time, labor efficiency and workforce development.
• Drive structured problem solving and continuous improvement in partnership with Production Engineering.
• Coordinate across shifts, escalate product or performance issues and work with Human Resources on disciplinary and hiring decisions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing or a related field, or 5 years of direct optics fabrication experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering is desired; a high school diploma is required.
• Strong manufacturing operations, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Outlook 365 and knowledge of SAP or a comparable ERP system.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001; experience in an ISO-certified environment is desirable.
• Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology under United States export administration regulations before starting work.

• Prior optical fabrication experience.
• Experience with ISO-certified manufacturing environments.
