Staff Engineer (Payments Compliance)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Salary: $212,000–$265,000 USD per year, with possible bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Lead the development and refinement of systems powering payments compliance.
• Set technical direction for compliance experiences, information collection, screening, and continuous auditing.
• Design service-oriented, configurable, auditable systems that integrate with Airbnb capabilities.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Operations, and engineering teams to define and ship features.
• Lead and mentor engineers across teams.
• Drive improvements to development processes, technical foundations, operational excellence, and system quality.

Requirements

• 9+ years of industry experience in a fast-paced technology environment.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading project teams, setting technical direction, and developing strategy.
• Experience leading teams responsible for on-call production systems.
• Proficiency in one or more backend server languages, such as Java, Ruby, Go, or C++.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, plus exposure to high-scale web and data application architecture.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards and experience implementing compliance controls.
