TL;DR
Embedded Linux Engineer (Robotics): Building and maintaining custom Linux images and kernel configurations for autonomous unmanned systems with an accent on hardware bring-up and low-level driver development. Focus on optimizing system performance, security, and reliability for high-speed hardware interfaces in contested environments.

Location: Must be based in or able to work from Cambridge, MA (Hybrid)

What you will do

  • Build and maintain custom Linux images, including bootloader, kernel, and root filesystem configuration.
  • Configure and patch the Linux kernel, develop custom device drivers, and manage device trees.
  • Implement system security features like secure boot, encryption, and firewall rules.
  • Optimize system performance, including memory usage, boot time, and CPU utilization.
  • Collaborate with the hardware team on board bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG.
  • Develop automation scripts and test frameworks in Python or Bash for CI integration.

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify participant)
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in CS, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in C and/or C++.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux kernel architecture, device trees, and user-space/kernel-space interactions.
  • Hands-on experience with bring-up and debugging of high-speed hardware interfaces (PCIe, MIPI CSI-2, USB 3.x).
  • Working knowledge of peripheral protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN).

Nice to have

  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson platforms (JetPack, L4T).
  • Hands-on experience with the Yocto Project and BitBake.
  • Knowledge of Real-time Linux (PREEMPT_RT) or RTOS.
  • Experience with camera and sensor pipeline development (V4L2).
  • Background in safety-critical systems (aviation, automotive, robotics).
