Embedded Linux Expert (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles — Hawthorne, United States. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Salary: $155,000–$200,000 per year plus equity.

What you will do

• Own the rover's Linux platform layer, including the kernel, drivers, BSP, boot chain, and Autonomy Computer systems software.
• Extend the BSP, device tree, and pin muxing for the embedded ARM platform.
• Develop interface software for CAN, RS-485, USB, CSI, and Ethernet devices, including sensors, cameras, and motor controllers.
• Own the over-the-air software update system.
• Design fault detection, identification, and recovery systems.
• Collaborate with robotics, autonomy, teleoperation, network communications, embedded software, and avionics engineering teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of embedded Linux experience at the kernel, driver, or BSP level.
• 5+ years of professional C programming experience.
• Deep hands-on experience with the Linux kernel and boot chain.
• Experience authoring and debugging device trees, pin muxing, and serial, CAN, and Ethernet device drivers for embedded ARM platforms.
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or demonstrated coding excellence through significant professional experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

• Space flight software development experience.
• Experience controlling real robots, autonomous vehicles, or remotely controlled vehicles.
• Experience with the NVIDIA Jetson platform, ZFS, or software tolerant to radiation effects such as SEEs.
• Track record of delivering highly reliable software on tight schedules.
