TL;DR
Embedded Autonomy Engineer (Embedded Linux/Jetson): Building and deploying Linux mission computers for autonomous defense platforms with an accent on sensor integration, real-time sensor-to-GPU pipelines, and on-target CUDA/TensorRT inference. Focus on kernel and camera bring-up, zero-copy and DMA optimization, and hardening compute platforms for power, thermal, vibration, and flight reliability constraints.

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 base annually for Embedded Autonomy Engineer; $165,000–$220,000 for Senior Embedded Autonomy Engineer, plus equity.

Company

hirify.global is a defense technology startup developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms and decentralized systems for the United States and its allies.

What you will do

  • Own the bring-up and lifecycle of Linux mission computers on NVIDIA Jetson/Tegra and similar SoCs, including BSPs, device trees, kernel configuration, and bootloaders.
  • Integrate MIPI CSI cameras, GMSL/FPD-Link SerDes, radar, V4L2, ISP pipelines, time synchronization, and sensor calibration.
  • Build and optimize real-time sensor-to-GPU data paths for perception, localization, and inference using zero-copy, DMA, and GPU memory management.
  • Maintain CUDA/TensorRT runtimes, GPU/CPU scheduling, edge containers, drivers, and libraries for autonomy and ML execution.
  • Build reproducible embedded Linux images with Yocto or L4T and harden platforms for power, thermal, SWaP, vibration, and boot-reliability constraints.
  • Define hardware-software interfaces with electrical engineers, debug boards with lab equipment, and contribute to autonomy runtime middleware, health monitoring, and state management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of embedded Linux development on custom hardware, including device tree configuration, BSP customization, and kernel bring-up.
  • Experience integrating Linux cameras and sensors, including MIPI CSI, V4L2, and GMSL or FPD-Link SerDes.
  • Experience with Yocto or L4T build systems and proficiency in C, C++, Bash, and Python.
  • Strong hardware-debugging skills with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, CAN, and UART; ability to read schematics and work with electrical engineers.
  • Experience taking Linux-based compute platforms from bring-up through real-world deployment with real-time and performance optimization.
  • Employment requires authorization to work in the United States and may require authorization to access U.S.-controlled technology without export-license sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • NVIDIA Jetson, L4T, CUDA, TensorRT, GStreamer, or DeepStream experience.
  • ROS 2, copper-rs, dora-rs, or autonomy, perception, and localization integration experience.
  • PTP, hardware triggering, multi-sensor time synchronization, calibration, DMA, zero-copy, Nix/NixOS, or Rust experience.
  • Experience with contested or degraded environments, including RF denial, low-light conditions, and high-vibration platforms.

Culture & Benefits

  • Startup environment with approximately 350 employees and a focus on rapid defense innovation.
  • Equity participation through stock options or equity grants.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings and paid time off.
  • Funding for continuing education, training, and professional development.
