Staff Engineer, AI Labs

Location: New York, New York; US-only compensation and benefits

Salary: $200,000–$275,000 per year, excluding equity or variable pay

What you will do

• Build and ship production-grade AI products from problem framing and data pipeline design through deployment and live iteration.
• Work directly with partner organizations to understand operational constraints and develop scalable agentic solutions.
• Lead technical scoping workshops with city leaders and solve complex local problems using agentic workflows.
• Contribute to products involving data consolidation, predictive modeling, real-time decision-making, and LLM-powered experiences.
• Design scalable APIs, manage data flows, and write reliable backend code for AI-driven features.
• Help establish the technical culture, development practices, and tooling of the AI Labs team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience building full-stack applications and owning features end-to-end.
• 3+ years of experience working with AI tools or building AI-powered products.
• Deep expertise with LLMs, predictive modeling, and supporting data infrastructure.
• Experience designing scalable APIs, working with distributed systems, and writing clean, maintainable code.
• Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous, early-stage environments and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Comfort working directly with users and customers and traveling for on-site collaboration.
