Applied AI Engineer (LLM)

Salary: $230,000–$260,000 annual base salary plus equity

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end applied AI architecture, including model selection, orchestration, RAG, evaluations, guardrails, and production cost and latency budgets.
• Build hirify.globalbot as a natural-language interface for searching, analyzing, and automating operations using live supply-chain, finance, and business data.
• Develop AI-assisted tools that propose, validate, and apply customer schemas and workflow definitions in production environments.
• Design permission-aware, auditable, tenant-isolated agentic workflows that can safely act within enterprise systems of record.
• Build evaluation and observability infrastructure to measure quality, detect regressions, and identify risky emergent behavior.
• Partner with product, design, and the Forward Deployed team while mentoring engineers and shaping applied AI practices.

Requirements

• Experience shipping and operating LLM-powered features or agents in production at scale.
• Hands-on experience with foundation model APIs, RAG pipelines, tool use or function calling, prompt and context engineering, and selective fine-tuning.
• Experience building evaluation harnesses and guardrails for non-deterministic systems handling business-critical data.
• Strong backend fundamentals, including system design, Postgres, cloud services, reliable web applications, and multi-tenant architecture.
• Ability to work from zero to one in ambiguous settings and determine when AI is an appropriate solution.
• Availability for an in-office role in San Francisco is required.
