Principal, AI Strategy & Engineering Transformation (AI)

Location: Remote (United States); U.S. Person status required

Salary: $150,000–$220,000 annually, depending on location; Washington, DC metropolitan area range: $165,000–$242,000 annually

What you will do

• Define the strategy, roadmap, investment priorities, and approved patterns for AI-assisted software engineering.
• Design, prototype, and validate AI-assisted workflows for coding, testing, documentation, code review, bug finding, and repository automation.
• Evaluate developer tools across capability, security, compliance, cost, supportability, portability, and operating-model fit.
• Redesign engineering workflows across requirements, backlog management, development, testing, releases, documentation, and post-launch learning.
• Run structured pilots with engineering teams and convert successful results into playbooks, reference implementations, templates, and automation.
• Establish secure AI usage patterns, measurement frameworks, governance, adoption programs, and executive recommendations.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required; the role may support export-controlled or restricted engineering environments.
• 8+ years of experience across software engineering, developer platforms, technical product or program leadership, engineering enablement, or enterprise technology transformation.
• Hands-on experience building AI-assisted workflows, agents, prototypes, integrations, developer automation, evaluation harnesses, or similar solutions with generative-AI tools.
• Strong understanding of Git-based workflows, CI/CD, testing, code review, repository automation, secure development, APIs, scripting, and automation tooling.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving engineering, security, compliance, infrastructure, senior leadership, and business stakeholders.
• Knowledge of enterprise security, data governance, responsible AI, and controls for safe AI use in software delivery; bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying AI development tools in regulated, export-controlled, disconnected, or otherwise restricted environments.
• Experience with AI coding assistants, agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented systems, local inference, or developer tooling.
• Experience building Champion networks, communities of practice, embedded enablement models, or enterprise change programs.
• Experience with developer-productivity metrics, GitHub Enterprise governance, platform migrations, cloud platforms, DevOps, vendor evaluation, or procurement.
