Energy & Construction Underwriter

What you will do

• Underwrite and manage an international Energy & Construction portfolio, with a focus on Contractors All Risks and Erection All Risks business.
• Evaluate new and renewal submissions, assess risks, and determine terms, conditions, pricing, deductibles, and capacity.
• Build a profitable portfolio while meeting growth, retention, and profitability objectives within delegated authority.
• Develop relationships with London market brokers, wholesale intermediaries, and clients, and identify new business opportunities.
• Negotiate coverage structures and policy terms while monitoring portfolio performance, claims activity, market trends, and emerging risks.
• Collaborate with Claims, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Exposure Management, Legal, and Operations teams; mentor junior underwriters and support technical training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Typically 8+ years of commercial underwriting experience with significant Energy & Construction expertise.
• Experience underwriting international CAR/EAR business through the London market.
• Strong knowledge of construction and engineering risks, project financing structures, DSU exposures, contractual risk allocation, and international project placements.
• Experience managing broker relationships and producing new business in a wholesale distribution environment.
• Strong technical pricing, risk assessment, negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.

Nice to have

• Lloyd’s market underwriting experience and an established London wholesale or Lloyd’s broker network.
• Experience with multinational construction and infrastructure projects across EMEA, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and North America.
• ACII, FCII, or equivalent professional insurance qualification.
• Experience with delegated authority, open market, and facultative placements.
