UX Designer (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

A fast-growing aerospace startup developing satellite buses at scale through vertically integrated hardware, manufacturing, and software.

What you will do

• Research user workflows and define UX strategy for the Octopus operating system.
• Observe technicians, engineers, planners, and operators in factory and engineering environments, translating findings into practical design solutions.
• Design and optimize workflows for inventory, production planning, shop-floor instructions, quality, supply chain, integration, testing, and analytics.
• Create experience flows, prototypes, design mockups, high-fidelity visuals, and design presentations.
• Build and maintain the Octopus design system, UX standards, and guidelines.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and production leaders through implementation and quality review.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in design or a portfolio demonstrating equivalent project experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing interactive web applications.
• Portfolio demonstrating strong user experience design, visual sensibility, and user-centered storytelling.
• Experience designing enterprise, internal, or operational tools used under time pressure.
• Experience with contextual inquiry, shadowing, usability testing, and other design research methods.
• Experience building design systems, communicating effectively, and working independently in fast-paced iterative environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with manufacturing, MES, ERP, logistics, or other operations software.
• Ability to work close to code, including reading component libraries or prototyping with HTML and CSS.
• Interest in hardware, aerospace, or physical production environments.
