TL;DR
Head of Energy Trading Regulation (Wholesale Energy Markets): Translating energy trading regulations into actionable guidance across power, gas, carbon, and environmental markets with an accent on REMIT, EMIR, MiFID II, and cross-European market structures. Focus on advising hedging and emerging flexibility strategies, interpreting regulatory change, and leading implementation of market-related reforms across multiple jurisdictions.

What you will do

  • Own regulatory interpretation and compliance across electricity, natural gas, environmental products, and carbon markets.
  • Translate regulatory frameworks into practical guidance for physical and financial hedging, PPAs, tolling agreements, and structured instruments.
  • Embed REMIT, EMIR, and MiFID II requirements into trading strategies and processes.
  • Assess regulatory treatment of BESS, demand-side flexibility portfolios, and renewable generation optimisation.
  • Track regulatory developments and build training for trading and market-facing teams.
  • Maintain relationships with Ofgem, ACER, the FCA, industry bodies, and peers while leading implementation of regulatory reforms.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with wholesale energy market regulation in the UK and/or Continental Europe.
  • Deep understanding of power and gas market design, trading structures, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience applying REMIT, EMIR, and MiFID II compliance requirements.
  • Experience with environmental markets, certificates, or carbon trading and with trading operations or market-facing commercial teams.
  • Ability to translate complex regulations for non-specialists and communicate clearly in writing and presentations.
  • Commercial awareness, comfort working in real time with energy market stakeholders, and the ability to manage ambiguity and competing priorities.
