Salary: $133,100–$210,600 USD base salary annually. In select locations, including Seattle, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City Metro Area, the range is $159,900–$252,900 USD.

What you will do

• Drive performance engineering initiatives from development through production, delivering architectural and code-level optimizations.
• Build performance models and methodologies for complex distributed systems.
• Profile hirify.globalsearch and analyze bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
• Develop benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.
• Build AI-assisted optimization harnesses for profiling, hypothesis testing, and benchmarking.
• Provide technical guidance and peer reviews while collaborating across teams and codebases.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of Java internals, JVM memory management, concurrency, thread-safe code, and lock-free programming.
• Proven experience profiling and optimizing distributed systems using benchmarking tools such as JMH or Rally.
• Understanding of partition tolerance, cluster state propagation, and scaling challenges in large-scale data stores.
• Experience using AI or advanced tooling to debug performance issues and automate benchmarking workflows.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively across distributed teams.
• Applicants must be located in the United States; export-control licensing requirements may apply to nationals or residents of certain sanctioned countries and regions.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating high-performance C++, Rust, or SIMD-accelerated libraries into Java applications.
• Knowledge of storage engine performance, index modes, or vector search optimization.
• Experience defining performance SLAs or working on the internals of a large-scale data store or search engine.
