Data Scientist Manager - Compliance Analytics

Location: Hybrid, requiring in-office work four days per week at an M&T office in Buffalo, NY; Bridgeport, CT; Wilmington, DE; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; or Metro NYC. A remote arrangement may be possible for candidates who are not near one of these locations.

Salary: $150,800–$251,300 annual USD

What you will do

• Manage a data science team of 6–8 employees and oversee staffing, performance management, development, and performance reviews.
• Analyze large and complex data sets to identify and quantify compliance risk, assess control effectiveness, and investigate root causes.
• Build, test, validate, refine, and productionize econometric, statistical, and machine learning models.
• Develop champion/challenger and self-healing model frameworks, accounting for data drift, reliability, stability, and performance.
• Create automated self-service solutions and model outputs that help non-technical stakeholders derive data-driven insights.
• Lead stakeholder meetings, review team code, provide training, and collaborate with data science, business, and compliance groups.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience including at least 7 years of related experience.
• At least 2 years of managerial, supervisory, or work leadership experience.
• Experience with statistical methods including A/B testing, sample selection, hypothesis testing, modeling bias, and analysis of large data sets.
• Intermediate proficiency with statistical software, programming languages, SQL, NoSQL, and hybrid on-premise and cloud databases.
• Expert knowledge of Bayesian modeling, classification, cluster analysis, neural networks, non-parametric methods, and multivariate statistics.
• Ability to follow data science principles and work with compliance, risk, and business stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Master’s or doctoral degree in statistics, economics, finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Fluency in time-series analysis, panel data methods, logistic regression, econometrics, and statistical techniques.
