Staff Software Engineer (Java/AWS)

What you will do

• Set technical direction for the Data Identity team and lead multi-quarter architectural initiatives.
• Own identity data models covering package coordinates, cross-ecosystem mapping, schemas, deduplication, and re-discovery.
• Architect and evolve streaming and batch pipelines using Java, Spark/EMR, HBase, Databricks, and AWS data services.
• Design versioned, backward-compatible data contracts for downstream products.
• Lead ingestion and technical integration of commercial SBOM feeds, including CycloneDX, VEX, and SPDX.
• Improve reliability, SLO discipline, cost management, incident response, and the use of AI in data-quality and identity problems.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years at Staff level or equivalent technical scope.
• Deep experience building and operating large-scale data platforms with streaming and batch pipelines, distributed storage, and production operations.
• Strong Java proficiency or a systems-programming background, with experience in Spark, HBase, Databricks, or comparable technologies.
• Experience designing cross-team data contracts, schemas, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Experience operating AWS-native systems, including EMR, S3, SNS, and SQS.
• Must be based in Canada. Comfort with vendor-facing collaboration, agile delivery, and daily use of AI-assisted engineering tools is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Maven, npm, PyPI, Go modules, RPM, or Debian package ecosystems.
• Experience with CycloneDX, VEX, SPDX, or other SBOM standards.
• Background in entity resolution, deduplication, record linkage, or open-source contributions in related domains.
