Photonic Design Engineer

Location: Greater Boston; San Francisco, Houston, or Remote (U.S.); Mountain View; Santa Clara; San Francisco Bay Area; On-site in Berkeley; or Munich, Bavaria, Germany.

Salary: $150,000–$250,000 annually.

Build a new photonic compute platform for AI using silicon photonics and III-V components to improve performance and power efficiency.

What you will do

• Develop integrated photonic devices for the photonic AI compute platform.
• Work across the full design lifecycle, including simulation, layout, tapeout, characterization, and prototype bring-up.
• Design, simulate, and test photonic components and systems.
• Contribute as an early technical hire to the development of the platform from the ground up.

Requirements

• PhD in Photonics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Experience designing, simulating, and testing integrated photonic devices.
• Experience with Lumerical, Ansys, Tidy3D, RSoft, or similar tools.
• At least one successful tapeout.
• Python experience.

Nice to have

• PIC layout and layout automation experience.
• Hands-on photonic chip testing and characterization.
• Semiconductor laser design experience.
