Director, Actuarial Services (Healthcare)

Location: Remote

Base salary: $190,000–$210,000, plus equity, benefits, and other compensation opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead development and reporting of total cost of care savings performance estimates for a portfolio of partners, ensuring accurate data and actuarial consistency.
• Lead annual financial reconciliations for value-based contracts and coordinate internal data resources and external actuarial counterparts.
• Evaluate performance estimates, quantify financial risks and opportunities, and advise Finance on revenue recognition related to projected shared savings.
• Identify potential underperformance, interpret results, and partner with health economics and clinical teams to determine root causes.
• Execute actuarial analyses and develop models evaluating financial and risk trade-offs across value-based contract features.
• Maintain financial models linking clinical and operational activities to outcomes that drive financial performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Actuarial Sciences, Economics, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline.
• Associateship or Fellowship from the Society of Actuaries (ASA or FSA).
• 8+ years of actuarial experience in healthcare and/or medical economics.
• 2+ years of experience mentoring junior staff members.
• Understanding of Medicare Advantage health plan data, including Claims, MMR, and MAO-04.
• Experience using SQL or another coding language to pull and transform data from large healthcare claims databases.
• Proficiency in writing clean, efficient code and maintaining strong data management practices.
• Experience working across organizations and building rapport with data teams and downstream consumers.
• Ability to maintain data accuracy, detect anomalies, investigate suspicious outputs, prioritize urgent needs, and work effectively in scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, and startups.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of experience with value-based care arrangements and contracting, including reserving and forecasting for shared savings, shared risk, and/or global capitation programs.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate the “Here’s What,” “So What,” and “Now What” to executive audiences or external parties.
• Strong understanding of healthcare financial and clinical metrics and industry standards for presenting data.
• Experience developing Excel financial models and forecasts evaluating the cost-of-care impact of clinical interventions.
• Familiarity with Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Understanding of pharmacy benefits and/or Medicare Part D.
