Commercial Pricing Actuary (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Build, refine, and maintain scalable actuarial rating models and pricing engines for Commercial Large Group business.
• Develop benefit pricing strategies and actuarial assumptions covering manual rates, age/gender factors, area factors, trend projections, administrative expenses, and margin targets.
• Partner with underwriting on risk selection, complex quote requests, experience rating formulas, credibility logic, and portfolio performance.
• Design and maintain pricing methodologies for ASO products, employer-specific fees, and stop-loss or reinsurance options.
• Direct annual and quarterly Commercial rate filings across multiple state departments of insurance, manage regulator interactions, and respond to objections, inquiries, and public comments.
• Collaborate with Finance, Healthcare Economics, Sales, Network Management, Clinical Operations, executive leadership, board members, and business partners on pricing strategy and rate impacts.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive healthcare actuarial experience, including at least 5+ years of direct Commercial actuarial pricing, rating model development, and regulatory rate filing experience.
• Experience building rating engines from scratch or significantly upgrading pricing tools, with proficiency in actuarial modeling and data manipulation using SQL, Python, R, or SAS.
• Direct experience managing the full lifecycle of Commercial rate filings through SERFF, including state regulatory reviews and securing approvals on schedule.
• Hands-on experience partnering with or establishing guidelines for underwriting teams, experience rating logic, and portfolio performance tracking.
• Demonstrated ability to complete complex, time-sensitive filings and pricing projects on schedule while managing high-stakes regulatory deadlines.
• Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative leadership skills, including the ability to translate complex actuarial concepts into strategic choices for non-actuarial partners.

Nice to have

• ASA or FSA designation from the Society of Actuaries and MAAA membership; equivalent practical mastery and pricing leadership experience are also considered.
• Experience with reserving, value-based contracting, or medical economics.
