Physical Security Design Engineer and Contract Document Specialist

Location: Boston, MA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; New York City, NY; or Washington, DC. Remote-friendly, but all staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time; travel for site and coordination visits is required.

Annual salary: $180,000–$230,000 USD.

What you will do

• Develop and continuously enhance the contract-document basis of design from site and risk assessments through project delivery.
• Author design templates, drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, riser diagrams, and standard details for physical security and low-voltage systems.
• Review design consultant deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with the basis of design across SD, DD, CD, and RIBA stages.
• Support bidding, construction, and operational handover through clarifications, RFI responses, submittal reviews, shop-drawing back-checks, and closeout documentation.
• Coordinate with security, real estate, workplace, network, architectural, electrical, fire alarm, AV, and security-integration stakeholders.
• Implement automation, AI-assisted workflows, BIM add-ins, web utilities, and data-processing tools while maintaining the design library and version-control logs.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of design engineering experience with ownership of physical-security or low-voltage contract documents.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• Technical expertise in access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercommunications, radio, and network systems, including the ability to author specifications, drawings, and equipment schedules.
• Strong understanding of A/E deliverables, SD/DD/CD and RIBA stages, CSI-format specifications, equipment schedules, and construction-administration submittal processes.
• Experience developing internal tools such as web applications, BIM add-ins, scripts, or automation workflows.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with comfort working in active construction environments and traveling globally when required.

Nice to have

• CDT, PSP, or CPP certification, or equivalent knowledge of construction project delivery.
• Familiarity with the Revit API, BIM workflows, version control, and modern AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience with Apple OS, Google Suite, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, Asana, Smartsheet, MS Project, Procore, PlanGrid, or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
