Software Engineer, Ground Systems – Blue Ring (Space Systems)

Salary: $164,652–$230,512.80 base pay annually for Washington applicants

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain user-services software for Delay Tolerant Networking, customer data routing, and external payload-data APIs.
• Build ground-system interfaces connecting Mars relay users, relay networks, and Earth-based services.
• Translate system and mission-partner requirements into robust software designs and implementations.
• Develop automated tests, perform integration testing, and tune performance for deep-space light-time delays.
• Implement CCSDS and DTN Bundle Protocol interfaces and collaborate with NASA, mission partners, and Mars user teams.
• Document architecture, interfaces, and operational procedures; support deployment, operations handoff, and peer mentoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience with production code in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience developing and maintaining external-facing APIs for data delivery.
• Experience with AWS or Azure, DevSecOps practices, automated testing, and Agile development.
• Experience with space mission ground systems, spacecraft operations, or a related domain, plus familiarity with CCSDS, DTN, or Bundle Protocol.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee under export control requirements.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.
• Experience with NASA civil space programs, U.S. Government missions, JPL, or Mars Relay Operations Service.
• Hands-on experience with delay- and disruption-tolerant architectures, spacecraft software, or onboard flight software.
• Experience with DOORS Next Generation requirements management tools.
