Staff Technical Lead Manager (Autonomous Driving)

Location: Onsite in Mountain View, California, or San Francisco, California

Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD base salary per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and the Waymo Driver for fully autonomous ride-hailing and other vehicle platforms.

What you will do

• Design and implement horizontal solutions for behavioral driving issues in new cities and service areas.
• Build quantitative evaluation techniques to support data-driven development.
• Develop technology and APIs that improve driving robustness to map correctness and availability.
• Collaborate with technical leads, Mapping, Product, and the broader Onboard stack.

Requirements

• PhD, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
• Experience manipulating and analyzing large datasets.
• Experience solving design problems spanning multiple software components.
• Experience with high-quality API design, evaluation, and data-driven techniques.

Nice to have

• Experience in autonomous driving, including motion planning or perception.
• Proficiency in SQL and C++.
• Experience building scalable evaluation workflows and metrics for machine learning models.
