Director of Accounting (AI)

Location: On-site in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA

Salary: $272,000–$344,000 estimated base salary per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own and scale the global payroll function across accounting and operations.
• Build the systems, processes, and team infrastructure required for a rapidly growing workforce.
• Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all operating jurisdictions.
• Manage payroll accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
• Partner with Finance, Legal, HR, and executive leadership on payroll operations and data integrity.
• Support audits and establish payroll operations as the company expands into new countries and regions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role overseeing multi-country payroll.
• Experience managing U.S. payroll is required; international payroll experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of local tax, labor, and statutory compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience building or significantly improving payroll processes and systems in a high-growth or scaling company.
• Strong proficiency with Rippling, ADP, Workday, or equivalent payroll platforms and HRIS integrations.
• CPP certification or an equivalent qualification.

Nice to have

• Experience establishing payroll operations in new countries or regions.
• Familiarity with payroll treatment for RSUs, stock options, and ESPP.
• Experience at a high-growth startup or technology company.
• Exposure to EOR and contractor payroll models.
