Hardware Engineering - Sustaining (IoT)

Location: Boston, MA, United States; office-based or hybrid options available.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 base salary per year

What you will do

• Investigate returns and field failures, lead root-cause analysis, and close issues with confirmed findings.
• Manage engineering change orders, PCB respins, component substitutions, and revision traceability across the product fleet.
• Handle component end-of-life issues, second-sourcing, vendor quality escalations, and supplier 8D/SCAR correchirify.global actions.
• Support contract manufacturing in Kunshan and Vietnam through production issue resolution, yield analysis, DFM feedback, and FATP/SMT line support.
• Own the RMA and refurbishment engineering path and feed field-failure patterns back into design and verification.
• Act as the first responder for sustaining issues across product lines, escalating to the responsible engineering pod when new design work is required.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years of experience in hardware sustaining, NPI, or manufacturing engineering for high-volume electronics.
• Ability to review schematics and PCB designs, reason about power trees, and assess the risks of proposed changes.
• Direct experience with contract manufacturers, including DFM, yield, FATP/SMT, and production issue resolution.
• Structured root-cause analysis experience using 8D, 5-Why, or fishbone methods, with ownership of correchirify.global-action closure.
• Ability to own ambiguous, cross-cutting problems in a distributed team.

Nice to have

• Low-power or battery-powered IoT hardware experience, including cellular, GNSS, or BLE devices.
• Experience with ESP32-class MCUs, SIMCom or Quectel cellular modems, fuel gauges, chargers, IMUs, and buck-boost regulators.
• Mandarin language skills or China-based contract-manufacturer coordination experience.
• Experience feeding sustaining insights into verification and design to prevent recurring issues.
