Head of Global Payroll (Global Payroll)

Location: Newton, Massachusetts, USA; in-person work three days a week or more with flexibility to work from home or remotely on other days

Salary: $130,000–$170,000 annually, based on experience

What you will do

• Lead global payroll operations for entities across the US, EMEA, and APAC, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
• Manage a geographically dispersed payroll team and coordinate with in-country providers, vendors, and third-party administrators.
• Review payroll outputs, reports, payment files, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
• Resolve escalated payroll queries and collaborate with HR, Finance, IT, and senior leadership.
• Ensure integration between HRIS, time tracking, and payroll systems.
• Lead payroll system implementations, upgrades, process standardization, and operational improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing a global payroll function and geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems, processes, automation tools, and multi-currency payroll processing.
• Experience with global payroll platforms such as ADP, Workday, SAP, or similar systems.
• Knowledge of payroll tax laws, statutory reporting, social security, pension contributions, GDPR, internal controls, and SOX requirements across the US, EMEA, and APAC.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• 7+ years of payroll management experience, including at least 3 years in a global leadership role.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience in a shared services environment.
• Project management experience in system implementation or process transformation.
