Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands or London, United Kingdom; four days in the office

What you will do

• Own the Clearisq real-time portfolio risk engine within Cboe Clear Europe.
• Define and maintain the target architecture across quantitative models, data pipelines, analytics, platform services, and integrations.
• Lead architectural decisions, code quality, testing, observability, technical debt management, and modernization of vendor-originated code.
• Ensure high availability, determinism, numerical correctness, reproducibility, auditability, and explainability of risk calculations.
• Collaborate with Risk, Quant, Operations, Software Engineering, and external stakeholders to translate risk methodologies into robust software.
• Promote safe AI-assisted engineering for code comprehension, development, refactoring, test generation, performance analysis, and incident learning.

Requirements

• Strong experience designing and owning complex backend systems in Java.
• Experience with data-heavy, computation-intensive platforms and large in-memory or time-series datasets.
• Solid knowledge of software architecture, testing strategies, system observability, data structures, and numerical computing.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools in daily engineering workflows and evaluating AI-generated code for production use.
• Ability to reason about quantitative models and collaborate with quantitative or risk model developers.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions without direct people-management responsibility.
