Software Engineering Manager (Embedded C++)

Location: London, UK; based in the Kings Cross office with at least four office days per week and one flexible work-from-home day

Salary: £93,000–£131,000 plus equity

What you will do

• Manage and mentor software engineers working across embedded C++/CUDA, GUI, and embedded Linux.
• Own the technical roadmap, software architecture, and technical direction for the product software stack.
• Lead design reviews, architecture reviews, code reviews, and engineering quality practices.
• Drive software delivery from prototype through production release while coordinating with FPGA, electronics, optical, and clinical teams.
• Support system integration, hardware bring-up, on-target performance validation, CI/CD, release processes, and quality gates.
• Manage external development partners and contractors when required.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in engineering management or team leadership.
• Experience leading and developing high-performing software teams and setting technical direction.
• Hands-on embedded and real-time software development experience with C/C++ on embedded Linux.
• Strong software architecture and system design experience for resource-constrained or safety-critical hardware.
• Experience developing software for medical devices or another regulated industry.
• Experience owning software architectures and technical roadmaps from concept through production, with strong cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time signal processing, high-speed data acquisition, or physiological data pipelines.
• Familiarity with CUDA or GPU-accelerated processing pipelines.
• Experience with Flutter/Dart or other embedded GUI frameworks.
• Working knowledge of IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, and ISO 14971.
• Experience with FPGA-software interfaces, hardware abstraction layers, Yocto-based embedded Linux, or BSP development.
