Kernel Developer (Linux)

Location: 100% remote; work from anywhere in the world, with a focus on LATAM-friendly time zones

What you will do

• Investigate upstream CVE fixes and bug fixes, analyzing patch dependencies and their impact on legacy kernels.
• Manually backport Linux kernel patches to older RPM-based and Debian-based distributions and resolve merge conflicts.
• Build and rebuild kernel source and binary packages using reproducible RPM and Debian build environments.
• Validate patched kernels through build tests, runtime tests, and regression analysis.
• Improve patch preparation, build automation, and validation pipelines using Python, Go, and Shell.
• Document technical decisions, participate in code reviews, and collaborate across time zones while verifying AI-generated output.

Requirements

• Strong C proficiency and hands-on Linux debugging skills.
• Commercial Linux kernel development experience, including patching, backporting, or debugging.
• Experience with Git, GNU build tools such as make and autotools, and standard Linux developer utilities.
• Experience building Linux kernels or distribution packages from source, plus scripting and automation with Python, Go, or Shell.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and disciplined verification of generated code.
• Intermediate English or higher (B1+), written and spoken, is required for daily communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with RPM/SRPM or Debian kernel packaging.
• Familiarity with security patching, CVE analysis, and extended lifecycle maintenance.
• Working knowledge of Docker, QEMU, Jenkins, or other CI systems.
• Experience designing kernel validation tests, analyzing core dumps, and investigating regressions.
