Mortgage Originator

Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America; the role may require travel to prospective customers’ homes or business locations and working away from the office.

Compensation: Commission-based, with an advanced draw; specific compensation depends on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Interview applicants and analyze income, assets, debts, credit data, needs, and financial objectives.
• Assess creditworthiness, issue pre-qualification statements, and recommend suitable FHA, VA, conventional, and other residential mortgage programs.
• Negotiate loan terms and conditions and advise customers on alternative lending vehicles and other bank products.
• Develop new mortgage business through customers, Realtors, builders, developers, community contacts, seminars, and outreach activities.
• Monitor local real estate market trends and changes in private and government-insured mortgage regulations.
• Ensure compliance with bank policies, origination procedures, regulatory requirements, and SAFE Act registration obligations.

Requirements

• Associate degree and at least 2 years of sales experience, or a combined minimum of 4 years of higher education and/or relevant work experience including at least 2 years of sales experience.
• Thorough knowledge of FHA and VA regulations, conventional loan requirements, and real estate law.
• Proven sales ability, strong mathematical skills, and general knowledge of personal computers and relevant software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers at all income levels, Realtors, peers, and bank personnel.
• Ability to work independently under limited supervision, follow through on details, and meet critical time constraints.
• Federal registration under the SAFE Act must be established and maintained.
