Cloud Engineer – Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Location: 100% remote within the United States, with travel to Fort Lee, Virginia at least three times annually and additional onsite reporting if directed

What you will do

• Design, configure, and maintain production cloud landing zones, enterprise network architectures, and zero-trust identity systems in restricted DoD cloud environments.
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for data synchronization, ingestion, and multi-source transformation using Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
• Implement least-privilege governance, encryption, secrets, application connections, and API access controls with Azure Key Vault.
• Design and secure REST APIs and backend microservices through Azure API Management.
• Develop monitoring, audit-readiness pipelines, dashboards, alerting, and security logging.

Requirements

• 12+ years of documented, continuous cloud engineering experience beginning no later than August 2014.
• Extensive production experience with Azure Architecture patterns, including Hub-Spoke, ExpressRoute, and secure cloud computing architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, structured data lakes, and automated CI/CD using Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, or comparable tools.
• Direct experience with Azure Government, cArmy, federal GCC High, or other DoD IL5/IL6 environments is required.
• Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance is required at the time of application.
• Knowledge of DoD/Army architecture standards and IL5/IL6 controls.

Nice to have

• Experience with GCSS-Army, NLAC, Army G4 logistics modules, Strategic Enterprise Analytics, or comparable military data-lake platforms.
• Experience with defense analytics pipelines, military logistics platforms, or supply-chain telemetry datasets.
