Senior Precision Stage Architect V (E5)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States; onsite. Travel required up to 20% of the time. Relocation eligible: No.

Salary: $163,000–$224,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end architecture of high-precision motion stages and mechatronic subsystems.
• Define mechanical and control system architectures, including servo topology, feedforward strategy, sensing, actuation, and mechanical/control partitioning.
• Develop dynamic models, error budgets, and performance targets for nanometer-class positioning, settling time, throughput, and dynamic following error.
• Design, tune, and validate multi-axis servo loops, motion profiles, vibration isolation, disturbance rejection, and damping strategies.
• Integrate metrology sensors, motion controllers, FPGA/DSP systems, drives, amplifiers, and sensor-to-actuator signal chains.
• Lead architecture reviews, prototype qualification, system integration, supplier development, safety compliance, and technical reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Controls with 10–15+ years of experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Expertise in control theory, servo and feedback control design, multi-axis motion control, and precision motion stages.
• Hands-on experience with mechatronic co-design, system identification, dynamic modeling, control-loop tuning, feedforward design, and active vibration isolation or damping.
• Experience with motion-control hardware, real-time systems, FPGA/DSP, drives, amplifiers, interferometers, encoders, and capacitive sensors.
• Experience designing, building, testing, troubleshooting, and releasing semiconductor or similar capital equipment, plus knowledge of applicable SEMI, NFPA, CE, and EMI/EMC standards.
• Proficiency with 3D and 2D CAD tools and modeling, simulation, and data-analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or Excel.
