Staff Mechanical Engineer (IoT)

Location: Carlsbad, California, United States; onsite role. International travel is required approximately 10–15% of the time.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year, with potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, evaluate, test, document, and support production of wireless security camera products.
• Lead mechanical product development from concept through pilot, mass production, and post-production support.
• Design and manage tooling for plastic and metal enclosures used in homes and small to medium-sized offices.
• Collaborate with Product Design, Operations, Product Marketing, Industrial Design, ODM partners, suppliers, consultants, and fabrication vendors.
• Drive program performance, cost, schedule, and issue resolution goals to closure.
• Perform engineering analysis, including thermal, stress, and tolerance analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university, or 5+ years of relevant experience with a master's degree.
• 8+ years of experience in product design or mechanical engineering for high-end consumer electronics, smart devices, IoT, connected home, or a similar field; alternatively, 5+ years with a master's degree.
• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and extensive consumer electronics product design experience.
• Recent, extensive 3D CAD experience, preferably with Creo or SolidWorks, including complex surfacing.
• Experience designing camera-related products, outdoor weatherproof enclosures, plastic injection-molded parts, progressive-die sheet metal parts, and high-volume products exceeding 1 million units annually.
• Knowledge of die casting, adhesives, stamping, machining, rapid prototyping, and tolerance analysis, plus the ability to lead programs and resolve issues independently.
